Your SFBA Chapter Legislative Committee is the local arm of the CLCA’s governmental affairs program, a program that includes professional lobbying, grass roots action and communications with members and other groups. Among the committee’s responsibilities are:

  • Keeping the members abreast of local and statewide issues that affect our industry. This is typically done through the Legislative Update in the Bay Breeze.
  • Establishing and maintaining personal contact with local representatives in both the California State Assembly and Senate in an ongoing effort to educate our elected representatives about the landscape industry.
  • Representing the interests of our industry to local governments and agencies where necessary on such issues as leaf blower ordinances, water allocation policy, etc.
  • Participates in the annual Legislative Conference in Sacramento, including providing scholarships to attendees.
  • Represents the Chapter on the CLCA State Legislative Committee.
  • And MOST IMPORTANTLY, galvanizing grass roots participation within the Chapter to contact your legislators on important issues via fax and Email alerts and the phone tree.  Please remember that you are helping yourself and your industry when you take the time to phone, fax, email or visit one of your elected representatives when asked to do so by your committee.

Effective representation of your interests can only be accomplished with your participation.  The elected officials need to know that we are an important part of their constituency. " Please participate. " Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty "

You can access CLCA’s position papers on various issues such as leaf blowers, water, etc. and important bill updates by going through the link to the CLCA’s State Web Page: www.clca.org

Your very capable, friendly and accessible Governmental Affairs Director is Larry Rohlfes: (800) 448-2522 or larryrohlfes@clca.org

The key ingredient to any political activism is to let your representatives know that you exist and that you are paying attention, as opposed to just paying taxes.  Two completely different concepts and not usually practiced in tandem, as many politicians know (and count on)!  In that vein, I am leading the horses to the proverbial troughs; it is entirely up to you as to whether or not you drink.  You can find out who your representative is, by looking in your phone book under the Local Area Pages in the front of the book. Otherwise: Please cut this out and tape it up next to your phone/computer.  This way, when I ask you to do yourself a favor, you will know whom to contact and how.  Please remember, no crank calls, no nasty messages, keep it brief, polite and professional!
