Happy Hollow Backyard Habitat:

A Labor of Love

There are projects you complete—and then there are projects that stay with you. The Happy Hollow Backyard Habitat is one of those.

What started as a neglected, worn-down space has been transformed into something vibrant, purposeful, and alive. Thanks to the collaboration between CLCA SFBA and the incredible vision of Stephanie Morris, this space is now an inspiring example of what’s possible in our own backyards—a living, breathing habitat designed to welcome pollinators, birds, and the quiet beauty of nature back into our everyday lives.

Walking through the garden now, you can feel the intention behind every corner. There’s a hummingbird garden that hums with life, a butterfly haven full of movement and color, a peaceful redwood grove, and an herb garden that invites you to pause and breathe it all in. And of course, the bees—hard at work, reminding us why spaces like this matter.

But getting here wasn’t easy.

The area had been neglected for years. It showed. Irrigation systems no longer functioned, a fountain had toppled over, and multiple electrical projects had left the land torn up and struggling. It was the kind of place that required more than just effort—it required care, patience, and belief in what it could become.

And that’s exactly what our volunteers brought.

Together, we cleared out yards upon yards of weeds, removed dead and diseased plants, and tackled an overgrown elderberry that had taken over. It was hard work—no shortcuts, no easy fixes—but every shovel, every pull, every step forward brought the space closer to life again.

Along the way, something else happened too. We had the chance to connect with visitors at the zoo—sharing who we are, what we do, and why projects like this matter. Those conversations were just as meaningful as the physical work. Because this project isn’t just about one space—it’s about inspiring others to create their own.

This transformation wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity and support of so many. Hunter Industries and Watersavers Irrigation helped bring the foundation back to life with new valves, drip systems, and controllers. A-Tool Shed equipped us with the tools we needed—from geo trenchers to augers and shovels—making the heavy lifting possible. Devil Mountain Nursery provided beautiful plant material at a generous discount, helping us bring the vision into full bloom.

And at the heart of it all—our volunteers.

There’s no replacing the energy, dedication, and heart that each of you brought to this project. You didn’t just help build a garden—you helped create a space that teaches, inspires, and gives back to the environment every single day.

Meet & Greet at Barebottle Brewery

Santa Clara

The CLCA Meet on March 12 was a resounding success, bringing together a fantastic mix of contractors and associates for an evening of connection, conversation, and community.

We were excited to see such a strong turnout, with a great balance of familiar faces and new attendees joining us.

Barebottle Brewery proved to be the perfect venue, featuring a welcoming outdoor patio, excellent beer, and delicious food—made even better by ideal weather that kept the evening relaxed and engaging.

What stood out most was the energy in the room. Conversations flowed easily, new connections were made, and there was a genuine sense of excitement about the future of our industry and association.

Events like these highlight the strength of our community and the value of coming together. We look forward to building on this momentum and seeing even more of you at upcoming CLCA events.

Stay connected—we’re just getting started.
