President’s Message – June

Hi CLCA Family,

June is here, and that means we’re getting close to one of the most exciting nights of the year—our Awards of Excellence Celebration, coming up Saturday, June 21st at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Milpitas. The evening kicks off at 6:00 PM, and it’s going to be one to remember!

Before we roll out the red carpet, I want to give a big shoutout to the first hurdle in the process: Judging.

Thank you to all the contractors who submitted their projects. We know the work behind the scenes—polishing every last detail, staying on top of maintenance, and yes, babysitting those properties through wet and windy weather. You really put in the effort, and it showed.

Our judges hit the road, from Gilroy to South San Francisco, to score projects that were nothing short of amazing. This year brought out some of the most creative, sustainable, and beautifully maintained properties we’ve seen yet. The judging wasn’t easy—but that’s a testament to the level of talent in this chapter.

Big thanks to our judges:

• Calvin Craig, owner of Calvin C. Craig Landscaping, longtime East Bay Chapter supporter, and award-winner himself—his Hillside Beautification project took home the Beautification Award for Large Residential Installation.
• Richard Plaxco, owner of Geared for Growing Landscape, who brought his thoughtful and experienced eye to every project. He’s been a great advocate for the industry and a big part of what made this judging process so special.
  To all our contractors—thank you again. You put your best work forward and made this year’s competition something to be proud of.

So now it’s time to celebrate! Email registration is open, and don’t forget to submit your dinner choices. Come join us as we toast the talent, dedication, and creativity that makes this chapter great.

SFBA Welcomes a Returning Member

Please join me in welcoming back Sara Ramos, President of Magnificent Landscape, Inc., to our chapter!

Sara has decided to rejoin the CLCA to reconnect and contribute to our growing community. Based in San Jose, her company is well-regarded across the South Bay for its professionalism, quality landscape services, and client-focused approach.

We’re excited to have Sara’s leadership and experience back in the mix, and I encourage everyone to reach out and say hello.

Looking ahead

It’s Churro Time!

Mark your calendars.  On July 19th, we’re heading out to Excite Ball Park for another fun day with the San Jose Giants as they host the Modesto Nuts.  As an homage to the beloved ballpark treat and stadium vendor, the San Jose Giants become the San Jose Churros on six special nights throughout the season. Enjoy a re-branded evening, special jerseys, and don’t forget to grab a delicious churro!

And lastly, as we return from the holiday weekend, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on Memorial Day. It was more than just a break from work—it was a time to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives so we could enjoy the freedoms we have today.

I’m deeply grateful for their sacrifice and the example they left behind. Their courage reminds us to live with purpose, support one another, and never take what we have for granted.

I hope you each found a moment to reflect—whether with family, at a memorial, or in quiet gratitude. Let’s carry that spirit with us as we continue to move forward together.
