A Heartfelt Thank You

As we wrap up our 3rd and final day of judging with Kristin Gallego and Rick Mathews, I can honestly say this week has been such a meaningful experience.

Spending time with Kristin and Rick and listening to them talk through each property was truly something special. They noticed the details — the way a property was laid out, how special features were placed with intention, how plant choices complemented the shape, color, and design of the homes, buildings, and surrounding spaces. Listening to them made me slow down, step back, and really take it all in.

Their expertise, field experience, design background, and deep respect for the craft came through at every stop. They carefully took their time with each entry, spending no less than 15–20 minutes reviewing each category item listed on the entry forms. Every note mattered. Every detail was considered. Every project was given the time and respect it deserved.

And I absolutely need to pause and thank our Drivers and Navigators. The time and care you put into setting up the routes made all the difference. Because of your planning, each day moved efficiently, the judges were able to stay on schedule, and every property received the attention it deserved. You kept us moving, organized, and calm — which is no small thing during three full days of judging.

And let me just say — the properties entered this year were absolutely beautiful. Each one was a showcase of artistic vision, creative design, thoughtful planning, and the hard work it takes to bring a landscape to life. The passion behind these projects was easy to see, and the effort presented to us this week was truly award-worthy.

To everyone who entered this year: great job. You should be incredibly proud of what you and your teams created.

And to those who may have thought about entering but held back — trust your gut. Trust your vision. Trust the work your team is doing every day. This program is not just about trophies or titles; it is about recognizing the creativity, skill, pride, and heart that goes into this industry. Your work deserves to be seen, celebrated, and appreciated.

I hope next year even more of our contractors take that leap and enter a project. You may be surprised at just how inspiring your work is when others get the chance to slow down, walk through it, and see the story behind the landscape.

Thank you to our judges, our contractors, our crews, our Drivers and Navigators, and everyone who helped make this week such a beautiful reminder of why this program matters.

And I cannot let this message go out without recognizing Laura Leuer, who has truly been the cornerstone of this entire program. Laura’s organization, attention to detail, steady guidance, and behind-the-scenes care are what helped keep all of the moving pieces rooted and growing in the right direction.

Every successful program needs good soil, strong hands, and someone willing to help plant the seeds long before anything blooms. Laura has been exactly that for us. Her work may not always be front and center, but it is deeply felt in every schedule, every entry, every route, and every detail that helped make this week possible.

Thank you, Laura, for being such an important part of the foundation of this program.
