Better weather has been a boom for our industry. It has been a scramble working maintenance accounts around rainstorms and the rain has played havoc with the construction side of the landscape business.Thankfully things are returning to normal and our members report good sales.

Tree company members have had a brisk business with the storms making it necessary to remove fallen trees from roads in phase 1 and now they are going back and removing more fallen trees and cleaning up the remainder of phase 1. That aspect of tree work is going to take months to complete.

With the better rainfall totals, CLCA SFBA Chapter is looking forward to a prosperous year for its members. With more water for landscaping, infilling of plants should pick up this year.The cool weather also has had some interesting side effects. We have yet to replace winter annuals since they still look good and are flowering. Specialty plant growers are saying that bloom seasons are two to three weeks behind normal.

On Thursday, April 20, the SFBA Chapter had a valuable dinner meeting about business concepts. The agenda covered many important aspects of finance for the landscape business.Our sincere thanks to BBSI for providing dinner for the event. Peninsula Building Materials graciously allowed the group to use their Mountain View showroom.

Have you filled out your award packets and ready to enter the annual awards program? This year marks the 50th anniversary of the SFBA Chapter’s award program. With the success of last year’s meeting at Michael’s at Shoreline, we will be using their venue again. The date will be June 17.

Auxiliary Report

Welcome to the month of May! Happy May Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. And happy birthday to those having a birthday in May.

Thank you to Andrew Tuckman, Juan Carlos Esparza and Charlene Ott for organizing the Auxiliary raffle at the dinner meeting on April 20 at Peninsula Building Materials. We raised $50 for LEAF. Thank you to Gina Stanley of CLCA Insurance Solutions for providing the raffle basket and congratulations to prospective new member John Martinez of A.A. Environmental Horticulture and Design on winning the raffle. I hope you enjoyed your experience at our event and hope to see you as a regular member soon.

Our second Auxiliary meeting of 2023 will be Thursday, May 18 at the home of Vicky Parrott in San Mateo. The meeting starts promptly at 11:30 a.m. with lunch to follow provided by the Auxiliary. A Paperless Post invitation has gone out. Please RSVP through the Paperless Post invitation and plan to bring a small plate of your most favorite finger food dessert to share. We have a lot of great bakers in the Auxiliary so there will be lots to sample. If you have any questions, you can message me privately within Paperless Post or my contact information is below. We welcome all who are interested in joining the Auxiliary. You can learn more about what we do and how you can participate with the Auxiliary and help make a difference in the future of CLCA and the green industry. We do wonderful things and have a great time in the process.

This month’s Partners Spotlight focuses on Andrew Tuckman of SiteOne Landscape Supply who joined the company in the summer of 2021. Andrew is no stranger to the CLCA community having served on the Central Coast Chapter board in Santa Cruz for ten years while working at his former company Vision Recycling. Now, Andrew can be found running around the San Francisco Bay as a Key Account Manager servicing residential accounts with his passion for helping contractors grow their business. Andrew is the current Vice President of Membership for the SFBA Chapter in charge of the Achievement Awards, all chapter events, online communications, and newsletter content.
