Auxiliary Report
Tropical storm Hilary brought a small amount of rain…in August! Should I be concerned about another rained out Chapter Picnic in September? Arg! Mother Nature certainly knows how to challenge event planning.
The Chapter Picnic is here, scheduled for Sunday, September 10 at Cuesta Park in Mountain View. All are welcome. We have a good group of 32 signed up as of August 22. I’d love to see more. Please RSVP as soon as possible. Bring your family, employees, friends and neighbors. It is a fun afternoon meeting new people and catching up with old friends. The picnic starts at 11 a.m., the horseshoe tournament starts around 11:30, and the barbecue lunch will be at 12:30 p.m. We have eight horseshoe teams so far ready to do battle, including defending champions Ed and Jonathon Ott. Bring your A-game to beat the competition and get your name on the trophy. Games for all ages will be available throughout the day.
It is with sadness that I let you know that Jim Everett passed away in July. Jim was CLCA San Francisco Bay Area Chapter President in 1991 and CLCA State President in 1994. Jim loved to play golf and this year’s golf tournament will be the Jim Everett Memorial Golf Tournament, scheduled for Tuesday, October 3 at Spring Valley Golf Course. Come join friends and colleagues in remembering Jim Everett, whether on the golf course or just for dinner.
Enjoy this early fall time. Christmas and Hanukah will be here before you know it. Notice how I skipped right over Halloween and Thanksgiving, like at the stores!
Hope to see you soon.

Is your landscape reducing the impact of climate change?
As Bay Area Landscape Professionals, our responsibilities include more than just making attractive landscapes and satisfying clients. We also have to consider if our landscapes are reducing the impact of climate change, or if they’re adding to the crisis.
Recent research from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change | IPCC reports that human-induced climate change is causing dangerous and widespread disruption in nature. The result is now affecting every area of the Bay Area—and the planet.
Partner Spotlight
The Month’s Partner Spotlight is Pacific Nurseries
Pacific Nurseries began originally as a small, retail nursery in San Francisco. And over 150 years later, with the addition of more facilities, our plant inventory has increased to over 36 acres. And unlike many wholesale nurseries, we’re both a grower and a plant broker with an extensive and trusted network of specialty plant providers.
We continue to make investments to improve our facilities, provide the widest possible selection of plants, and integrate new technologies to improve customer service.
Our green practices include container recycling, low-water irrigation systems, and a bio-diesel powered delivery fleet. This helps us reduce our environmental impact, minimize our carbon footprint, and improve Bay Area quality of life.
